Teaching Programs to Help You Make an Impact in Central America

We are currently looking for volunteer English teachers for the 2025/2026 school year. Our school year started in August 2025 and runs until June 2026. We work in partnership with our local partner school , named  Santa Monica Bilingual School , located in Vida Nueva, Cortes, Honduras. We prefer volunteers who can make a time commitment of at least 3 months to the school. Please note that we are unfortunately unable to cover flight costs for volunteers.

Normally, volunteers teachers are expected to be at school from 7:00am - 2:10pm. This time includes recess, lunch, and multiple free periods. Teachers are required to plan, prepare, and teach lessons to their pre-determined grade. Resource teachers work with classroom teachers to work with small groups or individual students that need extra attention and instruction.

BECA provides accommodation in a shared room in one of our volunteer apartments. The volunteer accommodations are comfortable and modern by Honduran standards, with cooking facilities, washing machines and wifi.

REQUIRED DUTIES:

  • Facilitate relationships with students’ parents and other community members
  • Plan lessons and teach in English (all subjects with the exception of Social Studies and Spanish)
  • Foster a safe and productive classroom environment for students
  • Periodically serve as a Lunch/Recess monitor
  • Collaborate with the teaching team (Honduran and International) on school projects, events, planning, and curriculum development
  • Contribute to the collaborative and respectful group living experience
  • Serve as an ambassador for BECA by helping to spread the word about our work to your families and friends
  • Participate in professional development events, such as local education-based conferences, and BECA-lead efforts

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree by June 2025 (all majors welcome to apply!)
  • Candidate with an Associate’s degree may be considered, and are encouraged to apply
  • A commitment to BECA’s mission and a dedication to social justice
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Willingness to operate in a low-resource environment under challenging living conditions
