Job Summary:
The School of Language, Culture, & Society is seeking an Assistant to School Director. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The purpose of this position is to manage the office and business operations of the School of Language, Culture, & Society. This School is diverse and complex, encompassing undergraduate programs in Anthropology, Ethnic Studies, World Languages & Cultures, and Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, as well as graduate programs and Minors. This position implements administrative office policies; interprets university policies; serves as the administrative liaison for the School Director; provides budgetary support, business management, and supervision to assigned administrative staff.
This position requires analytical skills for evaluating, trouble shooting, and synthesizing issues in order to successfully process and coordinate all work. There is significant interpersonal interaction and access to sensitive information requiring excellent communication skills, discretion, flexibility, and professional poise. This position requires sensitivity to the diversity of backgrounds/identities within the School.

What You Will Need
• Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; coursework or experience should include personnel, bookkeeping, and general office administration.
• Experience managing a complex business office including budget administration, personnel administration, records management, program coordination and project management.
• High-level experience with MS Office Suite.
• Demonstrated professional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals including faculty, staff, students, administrators, and the public.
• Experience maintaining confidential information, and effectively support and fully execute institutional policies and management directives.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills including critical thinking, discretion, negotiation, sound judgement, and conflict management.
• Experience working independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and multiple short-term deadlines; ability to plan, implement, and evaluate projects and processes.
• Ability to prepare and analyze budget materials.
• Detail oriented; excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience explaining policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Because of deadlines of the university and this office, this position must work under demands of heavy volume and fluctuating workloads during specific times of the term and year. The staff member in this position must be available during peak periods such as beginning and end of terms. Record of actively contributing to a respectful, safe, and inclusive work environment.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
What We Would Like You to Have
• Work experience in a college or university setting, and the ability to convey the value of a Liberal Arts education.
• Familiarity with OSU systems and processes
• System user experience in Ellucian Banner FIS and HRIS and CORE reports and/or user experience with enterprise-level software systems.
• Experience with budget planning.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
• This position is site-based in Corvallis, OR and may include occasional evening/ weekend hours and travel.
• This position must work under demands of heavy volume and fluctuating workloads during specific times of the term and year.
