Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Engineer (Entry-Level / Intern)

Location: Cambridge, MA

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer (Entry-Level/Intern) with a strong foundation in 3D design tools (SolidWorks or similar) and hands-on interest in CNC machining, 3D printing, and fabrication processes. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers who want to gain practical experience in designing, prototyping, and building real products while working closely with an experienced team.

Key Responsibilities

Design & CAD Modeling

Create and update 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent design software.

Assist  engineering team in mechanical layouts, assemblies, and technical documentation.

Prototyping & Manufacturing Support

Prepare designs for CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, and other fabrication methods.

Operate or support operation of 3D printers to build prototype parts and fixtures.

Participate in hands-on prototyping, assembly, and testing of mechanical components.

Testing & Documentation

Help conduct mechanical and functional tests on prototypes.

Document test results, support troubleshooting, and propose improvements.

Maintain organized design files, BOMs, and revision logs.

Collaboration & Learning

Work with cross-functional teams (electronics, firmware, and industrial design).

Learn from mentors and actively contribute to design discussions.

Gain exposure to Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) practices.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or final year student) in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Basic proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar CAD software).

Familiarity with CNC machining, 3D printing, and fabrication processes (academic, project, or personal experience acceptable).

Understanding of materials (metals, plastics, composites) and their applications.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Eagerness to learn and work in a collaborative environment.

Preferred (Nice to Have)

Prior internship, project, or competition experience (Formula SAE, robotics, maker projects, etc.).

Exposure to simulation tools (FEA/CFD).

Basic knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing standards.
