Information Technology Intern

Job Summary

This position, under general supervision of the Network Engineer, is responsible primarily for the support of planning and coordination of different events involving Port staff and employee participation; responsible for performing general administrative tasks.

Essential Functions:
 

  • Create a detailed plan for how the network will be structured. This includes determining the physical placement of hardware and the logical flow of data.
  • Develop and maintain clear, up-to-date network diagrams that visually represent both the physical layout (cabling, device locations) and the logical structure (IP addressing schemes, subnets, VLANs).
  • Physically mount and connect network equipment, such as routers, switches, and firewalls, into server racks.
  • Run and terminate network cables (e.g., Ethernet, fiber optic) to establish physical connections between devices.
  • Access the network devices and configure their settings. This involves assigning IP addresses, creating VLANs, and setting up basic routing protocols to ensure devices can communicate effectively.

Other:
 

  • Adheres to PCCA policy, and maintains good employee relations
  • Assists Information Technology Department with special projects as directed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Additional Physical Factors:
While performing duties employee is regularly required to sit, speak or hear, use hand finger movements; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach stoop, kneel and lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Environmental Factors:
General office and outdoor work environments; occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:
This is an internship position. Candidates shall be attending an accredited college or university with a major in Network Administration; demonstrated written and oral proficiency in the English language; proficiency in Spanish preferred.  Strong writing, editing and graphic communication skills, organizational and time management skills; ability to operate a personal computer and a variety of programs, office equipment, and internet.  Must deal effectively with the public and varying levels of management.
