Summer Camp Dining Hall Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications
• A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a desire to share your faith with others
• College student or at least 21 years of age
• Experience in camp setting or an institutional food service setting
• Experience as cook and/or assistant cook, preferably at a camp
• Knowledge of standards of food preparation and serving, and kitchen procedures
• Desire and ability to work in a camp setting with children and adults outdoors
• Interest, knowledge and skills in leading young people, ability to teach and encourage others
• Self-motivated, responsible, an independent worker, and organized
• Ability to relate to one’s peer group
• Ability to accept guidance and supervision
• Good character, integrity, and adaptability to camp setting
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control

General Responsibilities - Assist in the planning, directing, and supervising of Star Lake Camp’s ministry of food.
1. Involvement in the total camp program with willingness to help in all areas as needed, including dining room, campfire programs, children with problems, evening programs, etc.
2. Promote observance of the spiritual emphasis of the program and the moral and ethical code affecting campers and staff.
3. Attend and contribute at staff meetings.
4. Responsible for sharing with the Camp Director all matters of mutual concern relating to the total welfare of the camp.
5. Responsible to observe set curfew.
 

Specific Responsibilities:
1. Participate in overall camp staff training.
2. Follow standards of New Jersey Local Health Department and American Camp Association.
3. Train Food Service Aides in conjunction with Star Lake Conference Center Food Service Manager.
4. Train all staff and campers in food service policies and procedures.
5. Responsible to assist in all aspects of food service.
6. Function as general all-round cook and baking for all meals and special events including Camper & Staff Birthday’s, Special Diets, Staff Snacks, Overnight camping trips, and International Nights.
7. Check Loading Dock area to ensure all recyclables have been properly taken care of and that the grounds around the loading dock are kept free of debris.
8. Supervise the line servers during the meal to ensure that the campers are served in a friendly manner.
9. Make sure that special trays are prepared for those with food allergies.
10. Share with Camp Director all concerns as it relates to the kitchen and or dining hall.
11. Responsible to ensure that the temperature charts at every meal and that the meals being served are at the proper temperature.
12. Assist in loading and unloading of the Food Truck.
13. Maintain and serve proper portions of food in accordance with U.S.D.A.’s Summer Food Service Program regulations.
14. The Dining & Kitchen Supervisor should inventory the kitchen closet daily and order any products needed, as it relates to paper goods, coffee area, salad bar and the staff area.
15. Contact the Camp Director, and or the Program Director immediately if a meal is to be late or if there are any other problems.
16. The Dining & Kitchen Supervisor will be required to work closely with the Food Service Manager at the Lodge, to communicate any issues in regard to ordering, the menu or food that is delivered.
17. As scheduled by the Konduit Supervisor be prepared to assist in any Konduit EP’s (Evening Programs).
18. Write an evaluative brief at the end of each session to include areas of concern for next camping session/season. Make recommendations for equipment, supplies, and program.
 

Staff Responsibilities
1. Clean living area daily.
2. Work as a team player.
3. Committed to the development of campers spiritually, physically, educationally, emotionally, and socially.
4. Willing to work with all staff members regardless of their positions
5. Maintain a high level of interaction with campers and staff.
6. Be a constructive member of the staff contributing in every way possible to the health, harmony, and happiness of the Star Lake Camp family.
7. Pray that each camper comes to know Christ as Savior.
8. Attend weekly staff Bible studies. These take place one evening per session.
9. Attend Sunday morning staff worship.
10. Voice criticisms to the Camp Director first.
11. Be in accord with camp aims and policies, being loyal to camp at all times.
12. Assist where needed for the benefit of the campers and the smooth operation of the camp.
13. Respond positively to the direction of the Program Director when he/she makes schedule changes.
 

Essential Responsibilities
1. Ability to participate fully in the total camp program*
2. Ability to communicate and work with groups of various ages and skills levels, and provide necessary instruction to campers and/or staff.
3. Physical ability to respond appropriately and quickly to situations requiring first aid.
4. Cognitive and communicative abilities to plan and conduct activities that achieve camper development objectives.
5. Ability to identify and respond to hazards. Must be able to assist campers in emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
6. Respond immediately to assigned area in the event of a missing camper alarm.
 

- These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required.
 

*Please note that full participation means that although you may not have an assigned responsibility you are required to attend and participate in the various daily programs of camp, such as evening programs, camper worship, cabin devotions, etc…
