Biology Research Assistant: Fish Biomechanics (FWS)
Note: This job is only for students with Federal Work Study.
Job Description: This position is for undergraduates interested in conducting research in fish biology in the Farina Laboratory in the Department of Biology at Howard University. Successful applicants will conduct experiments with the lab's robotic flounder model (no robotics experience necessary - training will be provided). Please note that there are no live fishes currently being used for these projects.

Job Duties:
Job duties will vary based on the assigned project but may include…
· Conducting experiments with our self-burying robotic fish model
· Developing new components for robotic models using 3D design and 3D printing
· Conducting statistical analysis of the results in R statistical software.
· Contributing to the development of figures and writing of manuscripts
Minimum Qualifications:
· An openness to pursuing research as some part of your future career goals
· Willingness to learn a little bit of robotics and how to code in R
Preferred Qualifications:
· A strong desire to pursue a career in research (any field)
· Substantial enthusiasm for learning new technical skills, such as R, robotics, 3D design, and 3D printing
· An interest in biology, evolution, marine biology, fisheries science, environmental science, zoology, or other related fields
Desired Work Availability: Wednesdays, Thursdays, and/or Fridays (depending on your course schedule)
