Information Technology Intern - Summer 2026

2026 Program Information

Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on, meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration.  Duquesne Light’s internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines.

 

  • Internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid, and run for 12 weeks (May-August).
  • Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLH’s Hybrid Work Model (described below).
  • Candidates must be full-time, degree-seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies.
  • Candidates must have at least one semester remaining after completion of the internship/must not have graduated prior to the internship starting.
  • Candidates must be in good academic standing.
  • Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricular activities.
  • Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills.

 

Overall Purpose:

DLC's Information Technology (IT) group oversees and protects our critical information technology systems to ensure we are able to utilize the best technology in powering our customers’ lives. The team works to support the needs of both Duquesne Light’s employees and its customers.

 

From troubleshooting daily technical issues to protecting the company’s critical systems, and collaborating with partners across the business on key technology implementations, IT plays a fundamental role in keeping business operations running smoothly and ensuring DLC remains innovative.

 

The IT team is comprised of a range of primary areas, including Corporate Applications, Information Security, Project and Services Management, Technical Services and specialized areas, including Customer Applications and Operations Applications.

 

We are filling multiple positions, and the successful candidate may be considered for several areas of IT including: Cybersecurity, Automation, Operations Applications, Infrastructure, and Web Development.

 

Education/Experience:

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a BS or MS program in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Management Information Systems, Cybersecurity Analytics and Operations or IT related field.  
 

Skills/Abilities:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.  Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.

 

Hybrid Work:

All internships follow our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Interns must be in the immediate Pittsburgh area for the summer. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

 

Other:
