Director of Children’s Ministries Profile
The Director of Children’s Ministries will oversee the direction, coordination, and evaluation of Grace Baptist Church’s ministries to children (Birth-5th Grade). He or she will be responsible for overseeing all ministry leaders and volunteers associated with children’s programs, with special attention to recruiting, equipping, encouraging, and evaluating the ministry team. He or she will also focus on resourcing and collaborating with parents, reflecting our conviction that parents are the primary disciplers of their children. This ministry position, which will be part-time beginning in January 2026 until it turns full-time in summer 2026, will be responsible to report to the Senior Pastor and will delegate to volunteer leaders in each area of his or her oversight. The performance of the Director of Children’s Ministries will be evaluated upon the execution of the following responsibilities and may be assigned additional duties upon the determination of the Senior Pastor:
Ministry Expectations:
Serve as a Member of the Staff Leadership Team
- Model godly character as an example for the church.
- Collaborate with the staff team to implement the vision of the elders for the ministries of the church.
- Assist the pastoral team in ministry to the needs of the congregation by compassionately caring for people who are dealing with physical, emotional, interpersonal, and spiritual concerns.
- Participate in strategic planning, service planning, and ministry evaluation as a member of the leadership team.
- Demonstrate healthy patterns of personal discipleship, including regular attendance in service, personal engagement in Christian community, and missional engagement in the surrounding community.
Develop and Implement a Strategy for Children’s Ministries
- Develop strategies to help children be and make disciples for the glory of God. This includes setting long-range goals, identifying key ministry objectives, and managing the ministry budget to accomplish these goals.
- Plan, promote, execute, and evaluate regular ministries and special events for children, working collaboratively with the staff team to guard against overloading our families or volunteers.
- Select or develop curriculum that is biblically faithful, gospel-centered, theologically cohesive, and missionally oriented. This includes a clear scope and sequence for the proposed curriculum.
- Ensure careful compliance with the existing child protection policy for all volunteers and programs associated with the Children’s Ministry. This includes working collaboratively with the staff team to periodically update the policies and procedures associated with child protection.
- Maintain a presence within the community that is accessible to students both within Grace and in the larger area, specifically developing strategies for local outreach to children and their families.
- Develop and manage the Resource Center and Lending Library to facilitate the objectives of the Children’s Ministry.
Lead the Children’s Ministry Staff and Volunteers
- Oversee a process for evaluating and integrating Grace members who are interested in helping in Children’s Ministries.
- Recruit volunteers to serve in Children’s Ministries.
- Provide regular and systematic training for volunteers to equip them with teaching tools, classroom management strategies, child protection procedures, and overall ministry objectives.
- Provide clear expectations and regular feedback for ministry volunteers to express appreciation for what they are doing well and provide constructive feedback when needed.
- Develop personal relationships with ministry volunteers and cultivate a culture that encourages their ongoing discipleship through the discipleship pathway.
- Meet regularly with ministry coordinators to encourage them, ensure open communication, and identify opportunities or challenges in their area of oversight.
- Address concerns and resolve problems that may arise with students, parents, or volunteers.
Partner with Parents and Other Ministries.
- Prioritize partnership with families, equipping and encouraging them to disciple their children through regular communication, practical resources, and personal interaction.
- Provide encouragement and assistance to parents including biblical counsel in times of crisis, ongoing needs, or specific parental concerns.
- Support students with special needs by making reasonable accommodations and providing trained volunteers who can help them be integrated into the ministries at Grace.
- Collaborate with other leaders in cross-ministry initiatives such as summer camp and Parent Partnership.
Ministry Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be humble, mature, and growing in the knowledge and character of Christ. The ideal candidate will have formal theological training and experience in Children’s Ministries. The following qualifications are considered essential:
- Ministry Mindset: He or she must demonstrate love for people generally and children specifically, with evident skill in relating to them. He or she models a heart of humility and a desire to see children and their families grow as disciples.
- Foundational Understanding of Christian Education: He or she must have experience and expertise in Children’s Ministry, specifically as it relates to child development, curriculum considerations, and creative teaching strategies.
- Leadership Ability: He or she will encourage and equip the team by developing leaders, coordinating participants, and navigating conflicting opinions and desires.
- Communication Ability: He or she is skilled in interpersonal communication and ministry collaboration, gifted in active listening and encouragement. He or she should be humble, approachable, and gracious in his or her interactions with staff, volunteers, and parents.
