The Position: We’re looking for a Mechanical Designer Intern.
We are currently seeking a creative Mechanical Designer Intern with the ability to produce original and unconventional designs and capable of applying the principles of science and technology to create innovative manufacturing methods, components and support equipment. This position requires strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team. The candidate must multi-task and meet several deadlines at a time.
The intern will require to support the Comau Automation Systems, Mechanical Engineering team through hands-on development of designs, presentations, calculations, studies, investigations and participation within team meetings.
Throughout the duration of this internship the students will be trained, coached and mentored to ensure objectives are met as listed below. Throughout the internship; you will be evaluated and assigned new tasks as duties are experienced and learned while working closely with an assigned Mechanical Designer mentor.
Requirements:
Education
- Currently enrolled in a 4 year program from an ABET accredited college or university
Skills & Abilities
- Team oriented and good interpersonal skills necessary
- Ability to work independently
- Consistent follow through to meet deadlines and attention to detail required.
- Previous experience in the auto industry
- Basic vehicle Body in white Automation Assembly familiarity preferred
- Some understanding of mechanical automation
- Flexible regarding travel, may have to travel based on project priorities and customer / supplier locations
Software
- Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Power Point) - Required
- AutoCad – Required
- Solidworks - Nice to have…
- NX (Unigraphics) - experience is preferred
- Tecnomatix Plant Simulation - Nice to have
- Catia - Nice to have
Responsibilities:
- CAD updates to designs and documentation
- Perform customer product and commercial product investigations
- Prepare and submit reports back to the design team
- Generate PowerPoint presentations
- Develop an understanding of the Comau Automation Systems, Mechanical Engineering department, processes, and function.
The Location: This position will be located in Southfield, MI.
