Operations Engineering Intern

Program Description

Longroad Energy’s internship program provides opportunities for undergraduate students from underrepresented communities to explore careers in renewable energy. In 2025, Longroad is offering paid internship positions that create challenging hands-on learning experiences for college juniors, entering their senior year in the Fall. Selected interns will participate in a 10–12-week summer program that includes onboarding, structured work experience, mentoring, and exposure both to department-specific and company-wide personnel and activities.

 

  

Job Purpose 

The Engineering Intern will work on a variety of engineering projects related to wind plant, solar plant, battery systems and electrical power system performance. The Engineering Intern will be exposed to a variety of projects related to performance improvement initiatives, retrofit projects, reliability improvement projects, root cause analysis, maintenance and major repair planning. 

The day-to-day activities have a wide degree of variety involving multiple operating projects and colleagues located throughout the United States. 

 

Responsibilities & Tasks: 

  • Monitor and evaluate asset performance. Report on and recommend design or operational modifications to optimize safety, performance and long-term reliability. 
  • Help perform root cause analysis and remediation plans for defective equipment intended to enhance the design of problematic parts to improve safety, performance and reliability. 
  • Help to evaluate system end-of-life extension and repower opportunities. 
  • Participate in planning, coordination, budgeting, and supervising on-site and off-site activities related to retrofit and repair of the company's energy projects. 
  • Research and analyze change requests, design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.  
  • Travel to at least one operating sites within the United States. 

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student at a 4-year college
  • Preferred major of Finance, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Studies, or other related STEM majors
  • Some knowledge of data analysis and a programming language
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Interest in Renewable Energy Industry
  • Curiosity
  • Self-starter
  • Strong written and organizational skills
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Cover letter highly preferred
  • Interest in renewable energy industry
  • This position has been established to provide opportunities for students from underrepresented demographics in the fields of finance and renewable energy, including first-generation college students.
