Summer 2026 - Projects & Construction Internship - Engineering
Job Summary
PSEG is looking for an Engineering Intern for the Projects and Construction team of the Utility.
This job involves working as an engineer in the Projects and Construction team, utilizing a broad knowledge of business and engineering principles and practices acquired through previous coursework, experience, and on the job training.
This position will be Hybrid Fixed. Primary reporting location will be South Plainfield, but additional reporting locations may vary depending on work group assignment. Locations may include Somerset, Lawrenceville, Secaucus, Moorestown, Clifton, Newark or anywhere in our service territory.
Job Responsibilities
Assignments will include working alongside professionals in the following areas:
- Inside Plant Civil Construction - Assist in preparing scopes of work to solicits bids from contractors, oversee bid awards and construction. Possible oversight of work includes excavation, foundation installation, demolition, etc.
- Inside Plant Electrical Construction - Assist in preparing scopes of work to solicits bids from contractors, oversee bid awards and construction. Possible work includes substation equipment assembly and installation, steel erection, requesting equipment outages for safety, etc.
- Transmission Construction and Maintenance - Assist in planning and executing electric transmission maintenance and construction across service territory.
- Outage Planning & Scheduling - Support safe and reliable electric equipment outages. Including safety tagging, coordination between projects, sequencing, and communication with construction team, local electric operating division, and the transmission system operator.
- Project Management - Support safe, on time, on budget and on scope execution of all aspects of a project.
- Program Integration & Contingency Planning - Support transition of project from planning to execution, including contingency design to ensure reliability for switching and substations.
- Mobile Construction Workforce (MCW) – Oversight of outside plant construction including electric overhead and underground projects.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required education/skills: The successful candidate(s) must be actively pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, Structural, Construction) and graduating between December 2026 and May 2029. Students graduating in May/June 2026 are not eligible unless they are enrolling in a post-graduate degree program in the fall term of 2026. PSEG recognizes institutions of higher education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent. Candidates must have completed sophomore level course work for consideration.
Because this position will require traveling to various PSEG locations, a valid driver's license and a safe driving record is required.
Preferred:
- 3.0 GPA
- Familiarity with reading construction drawings e.g. Electrical Layout, Civil Plans etc.
- Experience with any of the following programs: Excel, Visio, P6
- Desire to pursue a career in the energy industry (interest in project management or construction)
- Demonstrate initiative, strong planning, organization, and team building skills
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills

All PSEG internship roles are paid at an hourly rate; however, there are no medical benefits associated with these positions. Candidates are expected to work 40 hours per week over the duration of the summer internship. We are targeting currently enrolled/matriculating students that are able to commute to their designated work location as needed. Housing, transportation, and immigration support will not be provided in association with these positions.
