Purpose of Position:

As a vital member of our Nutrition Services team, you will prepare high-quality, nutritious foods for our patients and employees in accordance with all food safety regulations. You will play a key role in ensuring meals are delivered on time and will help foster a collaborative, efficient, and safe kitchen environment. This position offers a clear career path (Cook I, II, or III) based on your experience and certifications.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Prepare menu items following established recipes, diet types (e.g., pureed, soft), and texture requirements.

Provide leadership and training to other kitchen staff, including directing Food Service Workers and outlining daily duties.

Proactively manage inventory, including proper thawing techniques and communicating needs to the inventory technician.

Ensure all food is prepared and delivered on time for each meal service using effective time management.

Maintain strict sanitation, infection control, and food storage standards to prevent contamination.

Clean and maintain food preparation areas, equipment, crockery, and cutlery.

Communicate openly with supervisors about workflow improvements, safety concerns, equipment issues, and policy violations.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the department's goals.

Minimum Qualifications & Career Ladder:

Cook I

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a professional kitchen.

Must obtain an Alaska Food Worker Card within 90 days of hire.

Cook II

Meets all requirements of Cook I.

Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a Hospital or Institutional kitchen.

Cook III

Meets all requirements of Cook II.

Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a Hospital kitchen.

Current ServSafe Certification required.
