NAAM is a non-profit organization which provides social support services to refugees and immigrants residing on the North Shore. The core services include: ESOL classes, employment assistance and job coaching, skills training, case management, after-school and summer programming for youth and children K-12, citizenship assistance and civics/history classes.
Position Overview
NAAM is offering multiple Internship opportunities to support various departments: Legal and citizenship, Employment Services, Communication and Events, Wellness Clinic, Administration and operations in Lynn and Lowell. Positions are minimum 10 hours per week with some hours in person providing interns with flexibility to gain meaningful experience while balancing other commitments.
NAAM internships offer a $1,000 stipend per semester and offer an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in immigrant support work—making a meaningful impact on the lives of refugees and immigrants. This role provides excellent professional development, networking opportunities, and mentorship from experienced professionals in the field, helping to build a strong foundation for future career growth in social services, nonprofit work, or human resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with staff to provide supportive services to clients.
- Observe and assist with intake assessments and discharge processes as needed.
- Participate actively in staff meetings and contribute to case discussions.
- Work effectively within a team environment, including sharing relevant information and insights about clients and families with staff.
- Assist clients with resume writing, job applications, and interview preparation.
- Support employment specialists in coordinating job training programs and workshops.
- Support salesforce team with implementation and training
- Conduct outreach to local employers to expand job opportunities for NAAM clients.
- Support the facilitation of job fairs and networking events for employment candidates.
- Provide individualized assistance to clients in navigating services.
- Track employment data and success stories to support program evaluation and reporting.
- Perform administrative tasks such as basic filing and organizing.
- Interns may be assigned special responsibilities or projects based on their qualifications and abilities at the discretion of the program director.
Additional Requirements and Information
- Completion of intake, orientation, reference and background is required.
- Interns are encouraged to participate in additional training opportunities for compliance and performance quality improvement.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university program in social work, public administration, business, or a related field. Wellness interns only: Current student pursuing a bachelor or master’s degree in social work, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution in Massachusetts.
- Submission of an official college transcript, updated resume, and successful completion of the onboarding process with the NAAM Team.
- Strong interest an commitment to serving diverse populations, particularly immigrant and refugee communities
- Ability to demonstrate and promote a caring, respectful attitude toward clients, staff, volunteers, and fellow interns.
- Commitment to always maintaining client privacy and confidentiality.
- For Wellness interns: Clinical interest in evidenced based treatment for individual and groups: i.e, cognitive therapy, motivational interviewing, and other evidenced-based brief targeted treatment is preferred.
- Ability to adapt program components to consider the cultural specifics needs of individuals and families.
- Multilingual skills and Proficiency in Spanish and/or other language fluency [Pashto, Dari , Swahili, French, Haitian-Creole, Russian,] is desirable
- Demonstrated proficiency ability to learn Zoom, Google doc, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, EHR and Sharepoint
