Events Intern
WinterKids helps children develop healthy lifelong habits through education and fun, outdoor winter activity. The organization reached upwards of 50,000 children each year with innovative outdoor education programs for schools, families, and communities.
WinterKids is seeking an Events Intern. The Events Internship at WinterKids is an exciting opportunity for someone to assist the WinterKids Staff with event planning, logistics, and communications for the Downhill 24 (24-hour ski/snowboard challenge held at Sugarloaf, February 26-27, 2026) and other community-sponsored events on behalf of WinterKids.
Additionally, this position requires an individual who is passionate about children, winter, and public health.
Requirements: An interest in nonprofit organizations, children, winter, public health, event planning, marketing, and development. Excellent writing and communication skills; strong detail, organizational and administrative skills; ability to take direction; ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision; reliability, flexibility, and creativity; and proficient use of MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook and the internet. Applicants must have the ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
DOWNHILL 24
February 26 -27th 2026, at Sugarloaf Mountain.
The Downhill 24 event is the only 24-hour ski and snowboard challenge in Maine. Teams of up to 12 compete to see who can stay on the mountain the longest and raise the most money for WinterKids. The entire 24 hours are packed with fun and entertainment.
The Event Intern may help with the following projects including (but not limited to):

Packet Organization:
- Mail merge names with chip numbers
- Prepare envelopes and stuff with all necessary materials for distribution
- FUNDRAISING & REGISTRATION SUPPORT: Strategic communications that support Downhill 24 participants in their individual fundraising campaigns.
- RESEARCH & OUTREACH: Connecting with potential vendors and sponsors who might like to participate.
- ONSITE EVENT MANAGEMENT: To be directed by Events & Sponsorships Manager.

Lead Supply Checklist Coordination
- Ensure we have all needed supplies
- Follow the duct tape color-coding system
- Oversee the organization of the rental truck (pack up after event)

Sponsor Banners:
- Check in all banners
- Confirm condition
- Track any missing banners that need to be reordered
This position includes a $1,500 stipend available at completion of the internship and intern/s will receive travel reimbursement at .70 cents/mile. The position is 5-10 hours a week (January – April 2026), has a flexible schedule, and does include some nights and weekends for events.
