Position Title: AmeriCorps Member, Program Development Member
Organization: The New York Academy of Sciences (Host Site, through NYC Service Civic Corps)
Location: Hybrid — 115 Broadway, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10006 + partner afterschool sites across NYC
Dates of Service: September 2025 – June 2026
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM; hybrid schedule with 1–2 remote days/week and 3–4 days onsite at office/partner sites. Evening or weekend events may occur up to 2x/month.
About the Role
The AmeriCorps Member will support the recruitment and management of volunteer scientist mentors for the Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program (ASMP) at the New York Academy of Sciences. By strengthening outreach strategies, improving onboarding systems, and fostering a vibrant mentor community, the member will help expand access to high-quality STEM opportunities for K–8 students across NYC.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about education equity, youth development, or STEM access, and who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. The member will serve as a key liaison between volunteers, partners, and staff, helping to grow the program’s reach and long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Recruit and onboard volunteer scientists to mentor K–8 students in afterschool programs.
Design and distribute monthly newsletters and engagement updates for mentors.
Coordinate volunteer orientations, trainings, and community-building events.
Support mentor placement, check-ins, and feedback systems to ensure high-quality experiences.
Assist in planning and coordinating Family Science Night events and summer STEM programming across the five boroughs.
Develop outreach materials, track volunteer data, and strengthen university/industry partnerships for recruitment.
Document systems, policies, and procedures to support long-term program sustainability.
