Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Material Testing & Evaluation: Develop, execute, and refine methods for testing baseballs, bats, and related equipment to assess performance, durability, and compliance with league standards.
  • Experimental Design: Design experiments to analyze material properties (e.g., composites, metals, polymers, wood) under conditions mimicking real-world usage.
  • In-Game Performance Analysis: Examine and interpret in-game data to evaluate how equipment performs under actual playing conditions and provide insights for design and testing improvements.
  • Data Collection & Analysis: Collect, organize, and analyze laboratory and field testing data to identify patterns, anomalies, or areas for performance improvement.
  • Material Characterization: Perform detailed material characterization, including mechanical, chemical, and physical property analysis, to support product development and innovation.
  • Process Development & Improvement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop new testing protocols, improve existing methodologies, and optimize equipment performance.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with engineers, product designers, and other technical staff to translate material performance and in-game data into actionable insights.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation of test results, methodologies, and recommendations for internal stakeholders.
  • Administrative & Laboratory Support: Assist with laboratory organization, inventory management, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities exist for self-directed projects and learning in advanced materials testing, sports equipment innovation, and related areas.

Required Experience and Education: 

  • College senior or post graduate only. 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Proficiency in SQL and data querying languages. 
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, and an understanding of baseball. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to work effectively in a team environment. 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to spot patterns in data. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Positive and proactive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools. 
  • Ability to foster and maintain meaningful relationships. 
  • Valid driver's license and comfortable driving in the Twin Cities metro area. 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Prior experience with data validation or data cleansing projects (internships, academic projects) is advantageous. 
  • Knowledge of programming languages (Python, R, etc.) is desirable but not mandatory. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Able to lift items weighing as much as 50 pounds. 

Time Commitment: February 2026 - October 2026.

Hours: 40 hours/week. 

Compensation: Hourly rate of $18.00/hour.
