CURE STEM Afterschool Teacher

Job Title: CURE STEM Teacher (Grades 6–12) 
Job Type: Part-Time, Contract (Afterschool & Saturday Programming) 
Pay: $40.00 per hour 
Location: In-Person (University of Maryland, Baltimore and UMB Community Engagement Center) 
Program Dates: October 21, 2025 – May 9, 2025 
 

About the CURE Scholars Program 

The University of Maryland, Baltimore CURE Scholars Program is a nationally recognized pipeline program designed to support youth from middle school through college and into health, research and STEM related careers. Through a combination of hands-on STEM courses and enrichment experiences, CURE prepares students to thrive in college and pursue careers in research, healthcare, and STEM. 

 

Position Summary 

CURE Teachers play a vital role in supporting the academic growth and enrichment of middle and high school scholars. We are seeking dynamic, passionate educators who will deliver are committed to equity, student-centered instruction, and innovative learning. The ideal candidate has experience in STEM instruction, youth engagement, and culturally responsive teaching practices.  

Note: CURE Teachers are not responsible for developing curriculum or creating lesson plans. All instructional materials, lesson guides, and supplies are fully prepared in advance. Teachers are expected to deliver the provided content in an engaging, student-centered manner, manage the classroom environment, and support student engagement. 

 

Courses Available 

CURE is hiring teachers for the following subject areas: 

6th Grade – Food Science 
Tues/Thurs 3:00–6:30 PM, Saturdays 8:30 AM–1:00 PM 

7th Grade – Anatomy 
Tues/Thurs 3:00–6:30 PM, Saturdays 8:30 AM–1:00 PM 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Deliver high-quality, engaging academic instruction using provided lesson plans. Teachers are encouraged to adapt materials as needed to actively engage students and support diverse learning styles. 

Maintain a structured, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. 

Ride the bus with middle school scholars to and from partner schools and the UMB campus (T/Th/Sat and some field outings). 

Take accurate attendance and communicate student updates to program staff. 

Communicate regularly with CURE staff about student performance, classroom needs, and opportunities for improvement.  

Collaborate with CURE staff to support scholar learning and program logistics. 

 

Qualifications 

Required: 

Enrollment in Bachelor’s degree program required, majoring in education, STEM, social work or a related field preferred.  

Strong classroom management skills and commitment to restorative practices. 

Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and support staff.  

Passion for social change and youth development 

Note: Background check and fingerprinting will be required 

Preferred: 

2+ years of teaching, tutoring, or youth engagement experience 

Experience working with students in under-resourced communities 

CPR Certification 

 

Compensation and Commitment 

Hourly Rate: $40/hour 

Schedule: Varies by grade (see above). Includes after school hours and Saturdays. 

Program Duration: October 21, 2025 – May 9, 2025 

Winter & Spring Break: December 20th - January 19th / March 29th – April 6th 

This is a part-time, grant-funded position with potential for renewal.
