Volunteer
At Harbor Humane, our volunteers are the heart of our mission to intake, care for, and rehome animals in need. We are looking for compassionate, reliable individuals to join our team and help us provide the best possible care for the animals in our shelter.
Responsibilities:
Volunteers may assist with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Animal Care & Enrichment: Walking dogs, petting and socializing cats, and helping to keep the animals happy, healthy, and engaged.
- Shelter Support: Doing laundry, washing dishes, cleaning animal areas, and helping maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Community Engagement: Assisting at adoption events, sitting at community events to represent the shelter, and helping potential adopters meet and learn about the animals.
- General Assistance: Supporting staff with various tasks that contribute to the overall care and well-being of the animals.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Reliable, responsible, and able to follow staff instructions.
- Comfortable working around animals of all sizes and temperaments.
- Friendly and approachable with a passion for animal welfare.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25lbs as needed.
- Comfortable working in a variety of environments (indoors and outdoors).
Time Commitment:
Flexible scheduling available; a regular weekly or biweekly commitment is preferred to ensure consistency for the animals. We ask that our volunteers commit to 5 hrs/month for a minimum 6 month duration.
