On-Call Assistant Copyeditor, Nonfiction

What You'll Do

 

  • Understand and apply Tyndale’s editorial procedures and style guidelines 
  • Communicate with the Nonfiction Team Leader regarding all work in progress, manuscript quality, and any troublesome issues that arise  
  • Coordinate work schedule and projects with the Nonfiction Team Leader and other members of the Nonfiction and Kids team, as directed; turn in work on or before assigned due dates; communicate fully regarding delays or needed schedule adjustments 
  • Prepare manuscript computer files for copyediting 
  • Process manuscripts on computer, entering corrections and tagging text elements in accordance with Editorial department guidelines 
  • Copyedit edited manuscripts, checking grammar, spelling, punctuation, accuracy of Bible quotations, form of bibliographies and notes, and consistency of style 
  • Proofread typeset pages for accuracy in all details 
  • Query the Nonfiction Team Leader or the editor, as applicable, regarding problems in content 
  • Proofread back cover copy, marketing copy, and other components as needed 

 

Skills and Qualifications Needed

 

  • College degree or relevant editorial experience 
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, including grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation 
  • Basic and growing understanding of the complexities of writing and editing; sound editorial judgment 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Skill in computer word processing 
  • Personal alignment with and adherence to the Bible as God’s Word, and agreement with our Statement of Faith

 

We estimate 15-20 hours of work per week for this role.
