Position Overview:

Advanced Technologies is currently seeking an Additive Manufacturing Intern to be part of a team assisting multiple nuclear development projects at its Advanced Technologies research and development organization in Lynchburg, VA. The intern will be responsible for developing novel manufacturing techniques of ceramics or metals through a one-off a few technologies BWXT is evaluating. These include both indirect and direct additive manufacturing technologies including electron beam, laser, and lithography-based technologies.

 

Location:

The position will be located in Lynchburg, VA at the Advanced Technologies Office.

 

Your Day to Day as an Additive Manufacturing Intern:

  • Take ownership of an additive manufacturing development program.
  • Generate/improve standard operating procedures and perform a safety analysis of the technology.
  • Develop and execute a development plan for the maturation of the selected additive technology.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree in a technical field of study (e.g., Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Nuclear Engineer, Physics, Chemistry etc.).
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure or experience in the processing and microstructure characterization of ceramic, metal, or composite materials.
  • Experience in metal, plastic, or ceramic additive manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience in polymer formulation and thermal/photoinitiation.
  • Enthusiastic attitude for tackling new challenges and learning new technologies.
