RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The core responsibilities of the Process Piping Welder include upholding strict safety standards while operating welding equipment and tools to ensure a secure and efficient work environment. The role involves executing a variety of welding techniques across multiple positions, as well as initiating and managing welding processes to meet project specifications. Additionally, the welder is responsible for preparing and inspecting materials and finished components using precision instruments, while contributing to continuous improvement through accurate documentation and effective collaboration.

Safety & Equipment Operation

  • Operates safety equipment and consistently adheres to safe work practices in all welding tasks.
  • Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions or defective materials to supervisors to maintain safety and quality standards.
  • Sets up and operates common hand and power tools used in the welding trade.

Welding Execution & Process Control

  • Performs welding operations in flat, vertical, and overhead positions according to project specifications.
  • Initiates welding processes by igniting torches or starting power supplies and striking arcs to complete electrical circuits.
  • Utilizes manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using various welding techniques (e.g., GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, PAW, SMAW).
  • Monitors welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, or distortion of materials.

Preparation, Inspection, and Quality Assurance

  • Prepares components for welding by clamping, tack-welding, heat-bending, grinding, or bolting parts into position.
  • Lays out, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies using precision measuring instruments such as straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Inspects completed workpieces for defects and verifies conformance to specifications using templates and measuring tools.
  • Assists in the development and documentation of standard work procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills & Competencies:

  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of welding machines and tools, including their design, operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Proficient in reading and applying technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models to ensure precision in welding tasks.
  • Listens attentively to others, asks relevant questions, and communicates effectively without interrupting, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Applies mathematical principles to solve problems related to welding processes and measurements.
  • Accurately identifies and selects the appropriate tools and equipment needed for specific welding tasks.
  • Manages personal work time efficiently and coordinates with team members to meet project deadlines.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches to welding challenges.
  • Understands and interprets written instructions, safety guidelines, and technical documentation relevant to the role.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule to meet operational demands and project timelines.

Experience:

  • A demonstrated history of successful work experience in welding is preferred demonstrating a consistent record of reliability, performance, and professional growth.
