Job Title: Medical Assistant I                                               Primary Location: Holland/Zeeland

Status: Full Time/Hourly/Non-Exempt                              Supervisor: Clinic Manager

Specialty: Sports Medicine, Urgent Care, Podiatry       Last Reviewed: August 2025

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30-5PM, with some weekends required

 

Position Description:

The primary responsibilities of the Medical Assistant I (MA) will be supporting the orthopedic provider, specializing in a variety of areas.The MA will work in a dynamic and specialized environment to assist in the care of patients with conditions and injuries related to physical activities. The MA performs a wide variety of tasks to support both clinical and administrative operations to ensure an exceptional patient experience. 

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Prepare exam rooms by ensuring cleanliness, proper equipment setup, and supply readiness for patient visits.
  • Record patient vitals, medical history, and symptoms
  • Assist with in-office procedures such as injections, splinting, and minor surgical interventions.
  • Apply and remove dressings, splints, and braces under the surgeon's guidance.
  • Educate patients on post-procedure care, rehabilitation protocols, and prescribed treatment plans.
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain compliance with infection control standards.
  • Document and update patient information in the medical record.
  • Reconcile and document patient medication logs at each visit.
  • Cross coverage with other orthopedic specialists in the office as needed. 

 

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist in scheduling patient appointments, follow-ups, and surgical procedures.
  • Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Coordinate with appropriate staff to refer to diagnostic imaging centers and physical therapy providers to streamline patient care.
  • Answer patient inquiries and communicate effectively between the surgeon and patients.
  • Maintain inventory and order necessary medical and office supplies for the practice.
  • Ensure compliance with policy, procedure, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient rights and confidentiality

Skills, Experience, & Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program. 
  • Certification (CMA or RMA) required. 
  • Experience in orthopaedics is preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology related to upper extremity anatomy and conditions. 
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and basic office software. 
  • Strong multitasking, organizational, and time management skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide empathetic patient care. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and fast-paced clinical environment. 

Working & Environmental Conditions:

  • Primarily in an indoor clinical/office setting with moderate noise levels. Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds is required. Schedule flexibility is required Monday-Saturday between 730AM and 630PM. The role may require prolonged periods of standing and frequent use of computer equipment. This role works closely with specialty medical equipment and exposure to biohazardous materials. This role requires the usage of personal protective equipment and requires in person attendance.
