Fuente Latina Student Media Fellowship
Fuente Latina's Student Media Fellowship is a unique opportunity for Spanish-speaking college journalism students to gain hands-on professional experience reporting from Israel and the Middle East.
This immersive, all-expenses-paid, one-week program offers students who are currently enrolled in college a deeper understanding of the region’s social, political, military and cultural dynamics. Participants receive practical training and tools to strengthen their journalistic skills in one of the world’s most critical hubs for international media.
Both undergraduate and graduate students engage with a diverse range of experts, historians, journalists, newsmakers and local residents whose insights enrich their reporting in this complex and globally significant region.
Guided by experienced mentors —professional journalists from Spanish-language outlets in the U.S. and Latin America— students publish original stories and multimedia content. Past fellows have published stories on Israel's Aramean Christian community, Latino immigrants in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, survivors of the October 7th attacks at the Be'eri kibbutz and the Supernova Music Festival, as well as Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank (interviewed via video conferencing).
Fellows must be at least 18 years old and proficient in speaking and writing Spanish, be enrolled at a university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico, hold a valid passport (or be legally permitted to travel outside the U.S.), and submit work samples, a letter of recommendation, and three story ideas they would like to pursue during their week in Israel.
Students can apply for FL's next Student Media Fellowship trip to Israel, scheduled for Nov. 22-29, 2025 (Thanksgiving week) by clicking here .
