Breakthrough Summer Teaching Fellowship

Breakthrough Manchester’s unique “students-teaching-students” model provides six years of intensive, tuition-free academic programming to support Manchester students from traditionally underserved communities on their path to college while inspiring emerging leaders in high school and college to be the next generation of educators and advocates for educational equity.

The Breakthrough Summer Teaching Fellowship is a rewarding and rigorous paid teaching opportunity. Whether you have always dreamed of teaching in a classroom or are considering it for the first time, teaching at Breakthrough will help prepare you for a career in education while building skills that are transferable to any profession. You will receive extensive training, continuous support, and the opportunity to lead a classroom through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is your opportunity to develop as an educator and leader through a hands-on immersive fellowship.

Qualifications

  • While you need to enjoy working with middle school students, you do not need to be an education major
  • Complete and pass a criminal background check
  • You must be a current high school junior or senior, or college student
  • Must be available and present for all programming days

 

COMMITMENT

  • Leadership Orientation: June 4-5, 2026
  • Full Staff Orientation: June 8-18, 2026 
  • Summer Program: June 22 - July 31, 2026 
  • Celebration: August 1, 2026
  • Wrap-Up: August 3-6, 2025

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Solo-teach two sections of academics daily
  • Commit to social justice and equity work
  • Foster a safe and inclusive space for all community members
  • Work with a given curriculum (flexible) and lesson plan
  • Co-create and teach an extracurricular course
  • Advise and mentor a small group of students over the course of the summer
  • Serve on a committee to plan and execute community events
  • Work alongside other exceptional college students from across the country to plan and teach classes
  • Lead field trips
  • Attend weekly professional development workshops and receive extensive training and continuous support
  • Have fun!!

 

STIPEND & HOUSING

  • Housing is available at no cost for out-of-state students.
  • Base living stipend of $2,500
  • Option to apply to become an AmeriCorps member and receive an educational award
  • Teaching Fellows are eligible to apply for additional financial assistance up to $2,500
  • Fulfill school internship or volunteer requirements
