Legal Internship

Job Overview

BearCom provides communications equipment and services to schools, cities/counties, and industry. The Intern will provide completion of standard commercial forms needed for contracts and contract opportunities. The Intern will conduct legal research into anti-indemnity statutes in all 50 states and 4 Canadian provinces. As time allows and under the direct supervision of the General Counsel, the Intern will review contracts, evaluate options and risks, and support the migration of legacy legal documents into a new database.

Length of Assignment, Pay and Hours of Work

The assignment is expected to last between 6–8 weeks, beginning at time of hire. The Intern is expected to work approximately 20–25 hours per week and will be paid $23/hour.

Location and Devices

BearCom will issue the Intern a company laptop and cell phone. Work will be completed in the Garland, TX headquarters. 

Key Responsibilities

Contract Review & Analysis

• Review and summarize existing contracts for key terms, risks, and obligations.
• Spot potential issues such as discrepancies, outdated provisions, or compliance concerns.
• Support drafting amendments or updates under attorney supervision.

Document Transition & Database Management

• Upload and organize all current and historical legal matters into the company’s new contract management database.
• Identify and classify documents accurately to ensure proper indexing, metadata, and filing.
• Track progress of the transition and flag issues or missing documentation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical/document migration issues in coordination with the legal team.

General Legal Support

• Prepare memos, reports, and summaries for review by the legal team.
• Assist with administrative tasks related to legal operations.
• Review and summarize current claims and disputes involving the company.
• Conduct preliminary legal research on applicable laws, regulations, or case precedents.

Qualifications

• Current law student or recent graduate with a strong interest in corporate law.
• Prior experience in a corporate or professional office environment preferred.
• Excellent issue-spotting, research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Tech-savvy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with document/database management systems.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational ability.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
