Job Description

Are you passionate about storytelling, videography, digital media, and making an impact through creative content? Iowa DOT’s Office of the Director is looking for a digital content intern to work alongside a collaborative team of graphic designers, web designers, and a social media specialist. In this role, you’ll help shape how the public sees and understands the Iowa DOT by creating engaging multimedia content across a variety of platforms.

In this position, you will be responsible for representing the Iowa DOT brand to the public and work to promote a positive reputation for the agency. From behind-the-scenes videos and podcast episodes to Facebook Stories and Instagram Reels, you’ll get hands-on experience creating content that informs, engages, and builds trust. You will have the ability to build your portfolio while working on high-impact projects that are seen state-wide, serve the public, and impact the Iowa DOT’s mission of making lives better through transportation.

Applicants should have experience with digital content creation, video and podcast production, social media platforms, and must have knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent platforms, and other Creative Suite products. The ability to communicate verbally, visually, and in writing is a must. The ideal candidate will be able to take large amounts of technical content and find creative and interesting ways to make the content more easily understandable by the general public.

What you’ll do:

  • Record, edit, and produce short videos and social content
  • Support the creation and editing of podcast episodes (e.g., script prep, sound editing, publishing)
  • Contribute to brainstorming and planning for social media content and campaigns
  • Capture and edit content for web and digital platforms
  • Repurpose technical or complex information into content that is accessible, visual, and engaging

Duration: Student will work full-time (up to 40 hours/week) during the summer semester. Part-time during fall and spring semesters (up to 20-hours per week).

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Currently enrolled students in a degree program at an accredited educational institution.
