Plumbing Project Engineer Intern

Position Summary:

The Plumbing Project Engineer Intern will provide hands-on engineering support to the Hill Mechanical Corporation (HMC) team and assist Project Engineers with the design, coordination, and execution of plumbing systems on a wide range of construction projects. This internship offers the opportunity to work on real-world plumbing engineering tasks, develop technical skills, and contribute to the design-build process from early concept through construction.

Interns will support engineering and design activities across Hill’s divisions, gaining exposure to cutting-edge tools, systems, and industry standards in commercial plumbing and mechanical systems.

General Job Scope:

Assist in plumbing system design and engineering tasks across various Hill divisions and project types.

Perform engineering peer reviews and support the development of internal plumbing engineering guidelines and standards.

Maintain technical libraries and stay current with new plumbing products, systems, and technical data.

Contribute to design/build projects, permit drawings, and code-compliant plumbing engineering documents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Support Project Engineers with plumbing calculations, equipment selection, and local and national code compliance.

Assist with project preconstruction activities, as requested by engineering teams.

Perform plumbing design calculations under guidance, including pipe sizing, pressure loss, and flow rate assessments.

Develop conceptual layouts using Design-Line, AutoCAD, and Revit for scope of work, permit sets, and coordination drawings.

Participate in site visits, client meetings, and engineering coordination sessions.

Help transition coordinated models to the construction team for further detailing and fabrication.

Facilitate communication between engineering and construction modeling teams to ensure successful project execution.

Be accountable for assigned tasks throughout design development and support phases through construction.
