For more than a decade, Island Exterior Fabricators (IEF) has operated as a privately owned practice specializing in the delivery of bespoke, high-performing prefabricated facade systems. Our 50-acre manufacturing campus is headquartered in Calverton, New York, and supported by design and engineering offices in Manhattan, Boston, and Hartford.

Job Summary: As a Junior Designer at IEF, you will be accountable for assisting the design team in the preparation and creation of 2D shop drawings, based on typical project construction documents, such as architectural and structural drawings. The FD1 will support the team by helping to print and prepare various shop drawing packages, ensuring accuracy and completeness in the design process. This role requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions and collaborate with the design team to meet project needs.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Must be able to navigate through typical project construction documents, including architectural drawings, structural drawings and project specifications 
  • Must be able to follow directions, both verbal and written, to create and update 2D shop drawings
  • Assist the design team in printing and preparing the various shop drawing packages 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Basic understanding of curtain wall and exterior façade systems is preferred  
  • Basic understanding materials, both construction materials and materials commonly used in curtain wall  
  • Creative thinking with problem solving abilities

 

Software Proficiency:

  • Autocad
  • Microsoft Office (Outlok, Excel, Word, Teams)
  • Revu Bluebeam
  • Navisworks – preferred, not required
  • Rhino – Beneficial, not required

 

Salary Range: $71,700-$81,999

Location: Harford, CT or Boston, MA

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm - Hybrid

ADA Requirements: The position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods while using a computer, along with sufficient manual dexterity to operate computers, mobile devices, and related IT equipment. The role may occasionally involve lifting or moving equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, as well as bending, crawling, or climbing—such as accessing under desks or server racks. Candidates must possess the ability to concentrate, troubleshoot, and solve problems in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills. The role also demands effective task prioritization, management of multiple simultaneous support requests, and a capacity to quickly learn and adapt to evolving technologies and tools
