Akron Community Internship: Social Media Intern for West Hill Neighborhood Organization
The West Hill Neighborhood Organization (WHNO) was founded by West Hill residents and became an official entity with the State of Ohio in 1997. It was originally formed as a member organization with a focus on preserving the historical fabric of the local community. Through the efforts of WHNO and the surrounding neighborhood, the Hall Park Allotment Historic District (Oakdale Ave.) was listed on the National Historic Register in 2002.
Hours: 100 hours during the internship.
Date: Summer/Fall 2025 (exact dates TBD to accommodate student schedules)
Location: Hybrid/Remote
Position Overview
West Hill Neighborhood Organization (WHNO) is seeking a creative and motivated Social Media Coordinator to help us amplify our impact by managing our digital presence, engaging with the community, and promoting local businesses and events. If you're passionate about community development and social media, we'd love to have you on board!
Key Responsibilities
- Reports to the West Hill Neighborhood Organization (WHNO) board.
- Managing WHNO social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram).
- Creating and posting weekly content.
- Taking photos and videos of people and places in the neighborhood.
- Promoting local organizations and businesses through sharing and reposting their content.
- Engaging with comments and direct messages in a professional and positive manner.
- Creating/managing Facebook event pages for upcoming WHNO events.
- Creating monthly newsletter using Mailchimp.
- Submitting a social media and newsletter update report to the WHNO board every month.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience using and planning social media, particularly Facebook and Instagram, and/or writing newsletters or email campaigns.
- Must have an interest in the West Hill neighborhood and/or neighborhood development in general.
