Position Purpose:
The Adult and Child Center for Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) is seeking a part-time Undergraduate Student Research Assistant to support a NIH grant entitled, “Targeting Family Meal Quality and Quantity to Reduce Childhood Obesity Using Ecological Momentary Intervention (EMI) and Video Feedback”. The study intervenes with families with young children around their family meals using innovating technology (i.e., ecological momentary intervention and video feedback) and in-person education. This is a 5-year grant that is funded through the NIH and will report to the Program Manager.
This position will work on a team of Community Health Workers (CHW) who will work with 500+ families across Denver, CO and the Twin Cities, MN providing a 6-month intervention around improving the quality and quantity of family meals, using motivational interviewing and SMART goal setting. Some families will receive the intervention 100% virtually and others will receive a combination of virtual and in-person visits.
Job Description:
100% Study Operations Support
- Attend intervention home-visits with Community Health Worker (CHW) staff, ensuring all necessary materials get to the visit, set-up recording equipment and verify that the recordings are taking place, engage with the family to support the CHW while they deliver the intervention components. Support the CHW as needed.
- Provide support with study recruitment, via direct contact with potentially eligible families.
- Attend weekly team meetings, data entry, preparing supplies for families, assist with study protocols, and other duties as assigned. Provide additional support for study operations as needed.
- Engage proactively in problem solving using available data (including both process and outcome measures) and study monitoring tools / project management tools.
- Identify emerging study needs and adapt study implementation plans and materials to address issues and changes dictated by PI / study team decision making procedures.
- Ensure meticulous study documentation according to protocols and notable modifications or significant study events that may occur during implementation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrolled in a BA/BS program in nutrition, public health or social science discipline
Conditions of employment

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g., EMR or EHR and data management systems)
- Experience in working with people on health behavior change (e.g., eating, activity, chronic disease)
- Previous experience with using motivational interviewing
- Experience working in-person and virtually/remotely with individuals
- Experience working with young children
- A strong preference will be given to candidates with familiarity with Black/African American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino and/or Native American families
- Fluency and ability to translate materials into Spanish

The Student Assistant commits to showing up for work diligently and punctually, honesty, performing assigned tasks, following directions, taking initiative, reliability, confidentiality, checking work for thoroughness and accuracy with attention to detail, and interest in learning new skills, especially mandatory computer skills. Ideal candidates will be willing to work up to a maximum of 25 hours weekly.
Pay Range: $17.00 – $19.00 per hour
