Program Description
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, is looking for talented leaders to add to its global leadership depth and play a role in the current and future success of the organization. The co-op/intern Program provides students with practical work experience in one of many diverse areas. The program allows students to gain a better understanding of the various job opportunities available throughout Goodyear.
In addition to challenging, engaging and interesting work assignments, students have the opportunity to meet and interact with students from other universities at work and outside of work. Tours of Goodyear facilities are arranged to help students learn more about the business. Goodyear leaders interact with students to help them begin to think about significant business issues and career options. Students even have the opportunity to speak with the Goodyear Senior Leadership Team.
Function Overview and Project Task/Responsibilities
The Global Material Science team in Goodyear's Akron Innovation Center is responsible for identifying, developing, and industrializing new material technologies for all of Goodyear's product lines including consumer, truck, aircraft, off-road, and racing. Teams within the department are responsible for providing Goodyear a sustainable competitive advantage in tire performance and manufacturing resulting from best-in-class material technology. Associates work with cross functional product design teams and production to establish performance and manufacturability targets for tires and tire components. Project tasks and responsibilities would include any or all of the following:
- Developing new compound formulations
- Rubber mixing and processing studies
- Virtual compound modeling
- Physical laboratory testing
- Factory prototyping
- Data Analysis
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelors in the following areas: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Engineering, Material Science, or any other relevant area.
- Minimum 3.0 overall GPA required
- Entering Sophomore year or higher
- Demonstrated leadership and strong communication skills
- Demonstrated technical experience in relevant area(s)
- Prior engineering co-op/internship experience desired
