The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's chief scientific in-house research agency. Their job is finding solutions to agricultural problems that affect Americans every day from field to table.

Major responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: Husbandry of SPF Chicken flocks. Husbandry of SPF Genetic line poultry flocks. Husbandry of SPF Duck flocks Monitoring animal welfare in SPF production including genetic lines. Monitoring animal welfare in a research setting. Insuring all Federal regulations and safety protocols are adhered to. Insuring sanitation and cleanliness of all animal housing.

Husbandry of Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) refers to the management practices required to raise poultry confirmed to be free of specific diseases. This is critical for scientific research, vaccine production, and disease control.
