Commitment: 10–12 hours per week | Semester-long (14 weeks)
About the Role
As a Community Creator Intern, you’ll help shape the “campfire” of We The People Rise — a welcoming, energizing online experience where members feel like they belong. You’ll research thriving online communities, experiment with ways to spark connection, and build spaces that encourage conversation, collaboration, and joy. If you love building community, sparking engagement, and bringing people together, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
Research online communities and platforms (Discord, Slack, Mighty Networks, etc.) to identify best practices for connection.
Design and manage a welcoming digital “home base” for WTPR supporters.
Create interactive experiences (discussion threads, polls, challenges, virtual events) that encourage participation.
Develop guidelines and rituals that make the community feel fun, safe, and inclusive.
Monitor engagement, respond to members, and share insights with WTPR leadership.
Support special projects such as storytelling circles, live Q&As, or digital “campfire” sessions.
Qualifications
Passion for community building, social connection, and culture creation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience with online platforms (Discord, Slack, Facebook Groups, or similar).
Creative, playful, and comfortable experimenting with new formats.
Organized, proactive, and able to keep digital spaces active and welcoming.
Deliverables
Research brief summarizing active online communities and best practices.
Launch of WTPR’s online community space with at least 3 active engagement activities per week.
A “Community Playbook” documenting strategies, rituals, and tools for ongoing engagement.
End-of-semester report with recommendations to grow and sustain community.
