Conservation Data Scientist (Wildlife Bioacoustics & AI)
The Kashmir World Foundation is seeking a motivated intern to join our BioAcoustics Big Data and NLP Research teams. This unique role is designed for someone who combines a strong background in avian biology, ecology, or animal behavior with skills in data science, coding, or AI analysis.
The intern will act as a bridge between field biology and computational analysis, providing critical context to the data we collect and analyze. By applying knowledge of bird behaviors and vocalizations, alongside technical skills in data processing and machine learning, the intern will help the team interpret bioacoustic signals more accurately and develop richer models of animal communication.
Responsibilities:
Analyze bird vocalizations with attention to ecological and behavioral context.
Apply coding and data science techniques (Python, R, or similar) to process bioacoustic datasets.
Collaborate with AI/NLP researchers to refine models for classification, translation, and behavioral prediction.
Provide domain insight into bird biology that guides AI-driven analysis.
Contribute to interdisciplinary publications and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in ornithology, ecology, or animal behavior.
Experience with coding (Python, R, or MATLAB) and data analysis.
Interest in bioacoustics, AI, and conservation.
Strong communication and collaboration skills for interdisciplinary teamwork.
This internship is ideal for someone eager to merge biological expertise with data science to advance cutting-edge conservation research.
