LM Chemical Engineer Intern

The CITGO Lemont Refinery is searching for a Chemical Engineer intern who will be become familiar with the refinery organization and work processes while learning refinery safe work practices. The intern will work on various projects throughout the refinery under the direction of a more senior engineer. This position is a paid 12-week summer internship. A presentation covering all aspects of the internship experience and accomplishments will be expected at the end of the term.

Interns will be responsible for assisting with or performing engineering duties which may include: feasibility studies, economic analysis of projects, process design, equipment specification, evaluation and selection of equipment and materials. Monitor and troubleshoot process unit performance. Study and develop short and long term solutions to process unit problems. Find & implement ideas to improve the profitability of various process units. Consult with Senior Project Engineers in the group, and complete site visits in support of ongoing engineering efforts. Site visits may include witnessing of site activities and scoping and verification for projects. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a Chemical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree program
  • Must be at least a sophomore status in college (completion of freshman year prior to start of internship) with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Available to work forty hours (40) per week
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Candidate must possess strong analytical and communication skills and be able to work in a team environment
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Eligibility
    • Eligibility Requirements:  The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration.
