
Long Range Planning Intern
INTERNSHIP IN PLANNING & IMPLEMENTATION
The City of Las Cruces' Community Development department is requesting applications for a paid long-range Planning Intern position. Applicant(s) would preferably be a Senior or Graduate-level student who can assist with various tasks related to city planning projects. Graduate students in any field with relevant education and/or experience are encouraged to apply.
Essential Job Functions (two or more of the following):
· Using a variety of tools and methods to identify data sources, gathering, collecting and assessing quality, cleaning, organizing, preparring, and packaging data for analysis;
· Collecting and analyzing demographic, land use and development-related data;
· Researching various topics on healthy community design, context sensitive street design, land use policies, plan implementation and tracking;
· Performing “windshield surveys,” making site visits, taking photographs, etc.;
· Creating tables, charts, maps or graphics to present research and data collection;
· Creating press releases, newsletters, web-based information and other public outreach materials;
· Coordinating meetings for projects; and
· Carrying out other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills:
· Excellent writing abilities
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
· Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and/or other ESRI products
· Skilled in graphic design and photography
· Proficiency in data collection and analysis
A successful candidate should recognize that this position is likely to involve a significant amount of public interaction and therefore, interpersonal skills are important
Salary
Minimum salary will be based upon college years completed (i.e. Senior, Graduate Level) with a pay range of $14.25 to $16.25 per hour.
Work Setting
This position will primarily be office work with occasional assignments in the field.
