This position is located in the Regional Flood Preparedness Unit. Under the direct supervision of a Senior Engineer, Water Resources, and in a trainee capacity, the Student Assistant will perform a variety of duties including assisting with planning, designing and overseeing facility improvements to new and existing flood emergency response facilities located in the Central Valley region and development and oversight of statewide and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta flood emergency response grants. The incumbent will also provide direct support to the Joint State-Federal Flood Operations Center during high water, flood and other emergencies. In addition the incumbent analyzes data using engineering principles and assists in the preparation of annual hydrographic reports, assembles and compiles information from field reports and investigations, prepares technical reports, and provides interagency coordination and technical assistance. Some assignments are broadly outlined and many have short time-lines with steadfast due dates. This position and unit are required to meet the Department's public safety mission.

Special Requirements
All applicants for Student Assistant positions must met the following department eligibility requirements:
- Enrolled in nine (9) semester/eight (8) quarters for undergraduate student or six (6) semester/four 94) quarter units for graduate students.
- Achieved a 2.0 grade point average in the most recently completed academic term.
- Declared a major related to the duties of the advertised position and enrolled in coursework required for that major.
Student Assistant employees are paid hourly and are limited to 1500 hours per 12 consecutive months.
