PLC Program- PLC is a commissioning program offered by the Marine Corps to college undergraduates. PLC candidates attend Officer Candidates School (OCS), where they are evaluated for their potential to become an officer in the Marine Corps. Those who demonstrate the mental agility, physical stamina and the ability to assert leadership skills, successfully graduate OCS. Upon attaining their baccalaureate degree, they are given the opportunity to accept a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. All PLC training occurs in Quantico, Virginia during the summer, therefore there are no interruptions during the academic year. Freshmen and sophomores enrolled in the PLC program will attend two (2) six-week training sessions. The first session will take place at the end of the current academic year and the second session will take place the summer of your junior year. PLC Junior applicants will attend one (1) ten-week summer session. Requirements while completing training or upon completion of training include, remaining a full-time student in good academic standing and maintaining open communication and involvement with the Officer Selection Team.
You will earn approximately $5,500 over the summer while at OCS. The Marine Corps will pay for the cost of your travel to and from OCS, as well as room and board while in training. The starting salary as a Second Lieutenant is approximately $65,000 to $95,000 annually (duty location dependent). After about four (4) years of regular pay raises, you will receive a promotion to the rank of Captain.
