Legal Intern
The position is a paid, part time consulting position. The position is on a project-by-project basis, working with student startup companies and various MSU Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation initiatives.
Tasks Include:
Work directly with student entrepreneurs who are developing their business ideas towards success.
Schedule meetings with students and their teams to discuss the possible legal ramifications of their business decisions.
Determine where their company stands and educate them on legal actions that make sense for them right now in line with their long-term goals.
Walk them through the basic steps of entity formation, answer questions regarding intellectual property, trademark searches, educate on basic tax planning strategies, knowledge of basic contracts and legal business documents.
No legal advice is given, only education and guidance on where to find information.
Follow through with each client to ensure they get their problem solved.
Going beyond the legal question they are asking, with a focus on what the student needs to work on to grow as an entrepreneur.
Requirements:
Knowledge in intellectual property law
IP Survey Class is recommended
Knowledge in business identity formation
Business enterprise class is recommended
Strong analytical and critical thinking
Flexible schedule
Excellent communicator
Self-starter and self-manager
Commit at approximately 10 hours per week
Rate is $13/hour
