Basic Function and Responsibility: 

Assist the Center for Native American Studies (CNAS) leadership team with tasks associated with the planning, promotion, and implementation of a range of programs hosted by or supported by the CNAS. Assist with office needs including answering phones, greeting visitors, filing documents, making copies, contributing to the CNAS online presence, and other assigned tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Assist with successful implementation and reporting of CNAS led/supported programs including, but not limited to, gatherings, activities, events, and hosting special guests. 
  2. Maintain an events page and calendar. 
  3. Take and organize photos of CNAS events.
  4. Assist with care and maintenance of the CNAS firesite, the little spirit garden, and sugar bush equipment.
  5. Assist CNAS office team with communications (email, phone, posting posters, etc)
  6. Attend trainings as required 
  7. Adhere to the policies and student employee expectations as required
  8. Complete other duties or tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. Work-study required
  2. NMU student in good academic standing
  3. Demonstrated experience with working independently and in a team environment.
  4. Evidence of strong communication and organizational skills
  5. Free from any social probation imposed through the University’s judicial process at the time of application, and remain free of any probationary status

Additional Desired Qualifications: 

  1. Previous experience working in an office in a supportive role
  2. Event planning skills
  3. Graphic design skills and/or photography skills
  4. Knowledge of tribal nations in the Great Lakes region
  5. Knowledge of Native American studies 
  6. Familiarity with Anishinaabe language
