Charity Development
Position Responsibilities:
A charity development internship focuses on supporting the growth and sustainability of nonprofit organizations by helping to manage relationships, increase funding, and raise awareness for the charity’s mission. As a development intern, you'll get exposure to fundraising strategies, donor management, and the operational side of running a nonprofit organization.
Key Responsibilities
Donor Research and Engagement:
- Researching potential donors, grant opportunities, and corporate sponsorships.
- Assisting in maintaining donor relationships through emails, phone calls, or events.
- Updating donor databases (like Raiser’s Edge or DonorPerfect) with relevant information on current and potential supporters.
Grant Writing and Proposals:
- Assisting in writing grant proposals to secure funding from foundations or government programs.
- Researching grant opportunities that align with the charity's goals and programs.
- Supporting the development team in drafting sponsorship or partnership proposals.
Fundraising Campaign Support:
- Helping to organize and execute fundraising campaigns (online crowdfunding, direct mail, etc.).
- Assisting in the planning and promotion of events such as charity galas, auctions, or walks/runs.
- Creating content for fundraising materials, such as brochures, social media posts, or email newsletters.
Event Coordination:
- Assisting with logistics for fundraising events, including securing venues, coordinating volunteers, and managing registration.
- Supporting post-event activities like sending thank-you letters to donors or evaluating event success.
Communications and Marketing:
- Supporting the charity’s marketing efforts by creating content for social media, websites, and email campaigns.
- Engaging with the community and raising awareness about the charity’s mission and programs.
- Assisting with creating impact reports, newsletters, and donor updates to showcase the charity’s progress.
Database and Reporting Management:
- Using donor management software to track contributions, donor communications, and fundraising progress.
- Helping to generate reports on fundraising performance to present to the board or management team
On-site Supervision and Support
Our internships include 24/7 on-site staff to support students working and living abroad. All students will also report to a supervisor at their internship site. Supervisors provide and oversee daily tasks, introduce the intern to team members, and mentor the intern in organizational agility, skill acquisition, and career readiness. Interns complete a midpoint and final evaluation, and supervisors complete a final evaluation of their interns. All work responsibilities and projects are approved in advance.
Academic Credit
Students on an internship have the opportunity to enroll in their home university for credit, or enroll in a course through API to transfer back to their university for credit. Email support-internships@apiexperience.com for more information and a syllabus.

Housing and excursions are included in your internship and will be selectable during the application process.
