Building Material Estimator

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Building Material Estimator specializing in lumber to join our team. The Estimator will interpret construction drawings and project specifications to generate accurate material take-offs.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Takeoffs

· Analyze blueprints, architectural plans, and project specifications to create accurate lumber and other structural material take-offs.

· Ensure estimates are complete and all risk is addressed prior to submitting documentation.

· Assist in evaluating the cost-effectiveness of materials and methods, suggesting alternatives when necessary to optimize costs without compromising quality.

· Recommend appropriate lumber and framing solutions based on project needs, building codes, and availability.

· Ensure all estimates are completed on time and meet company quality and accuracy standards.

· Assist in developing standardized estimating processes and tools for continuous improvement.

· Support the team with technical knowledge and customer presentations as needed.

Collaboration

· Work closely with sales, project managers, architects, and contractors to ensure material quantities are aligned with project scope and specifications.

· Ensure all estimates align with company policies and compliance standards.

Documentation

· Maintain clear, organized records of estimates, quotes, and orders.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in estimating building materials for multifamily construction projects.
  • Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret complex construction documents
  • Strong knowledge of building materials and construction processes.
  • Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., PlanSwift or Bluebeam).
  • Excellent mathematical skills.
  • Strong analytical and logic skills with the ability to maintain a high degree of precision on detailed work.
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously under time constraints.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong work ethic.
