Damage Prevention Technician

BASIC FUNCTION: Locate and mark Conway Corporation utility distribution lines for construction contractors, other public utilities, and the general public to ensure line protection and raise awareness of potential hazards.

 

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Serve as the primary point of contact for location service requests and assess the site and scope of excavation activities to be performed.
  2. Respond to work order tickets and travel to the specified location.
  3. Use maps and locator equipment to identify the exact location of Conway Corporation utility lines and mark all located lines with paint or other appropriate indicators as required.
  4. Consult with customers or contractors to explain potential hazards and provide guidance on possible alternatives. If relocation is required, coordinate activities with the other party.
  5. For long-distance projects, maintain regular communication with the contractor to keep locates up to date and prevent construction delays.
  6. Record all required information on locate tickets and retain copies for the Corporation’s records.
  7. Perform damage investigations and accurately document all findings.

 

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PEOPLE SKILLS:

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED, plus related experience or training, preferably in a utility environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with an emphasis on customer service and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively. 

OTHER:          

  • This position involves potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, elevated or precarious locations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and varying outdoor weather conditions. Employees must remain alert and adhere to safety protocols at all times.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and ability to use job-specific software.
  • Must have a valid Arkansas Driver’s License and a good driving record.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift up to 100 pounds. 
  • Must be able to work non-standard hours as required and be subject to call-out in case of emergency.
  • Must live within a 30-minute response time of the intersection of Harkrider and Oak Streets in Conway.
