EPP Accounting Associate

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:
 
Performs a variety of accounting activities, including Corporate Accounting, International Accounting, Revenue Assurance, and External Financial Reporting using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and postal policies within the Controller department. This is the first level of a three-grade career ladder for accounting professionals to develop the competencies, technical knowledge, and skills needed for success in the full performance Accountant IEAS-21 position. At this level, incumbents apply entry level technical knowledge, skills, and abilities to support department programs and projects. Candidates entering this career ladder will work closely with a mentor/coach and execute an Individual Development Plan outlining developmental requirements which have been tailored to the employee.


OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
 

This position is the first level of a three-grade career ladder for use only within the CFO organization. This is not authorized on a permanent basis.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

1. Performs entry-level accounting assignments designed to develop a broad understanding of U.S. Postal Services Controller functions and internal policies and procedures.


2. Prepares journal vouchers and enters vouchers into system.

 

3. Reviews and validates accounting data (e.g., journal vouchers, invoices, and other supporting documentations) for accuracy.

 

4. Conducts basic accounting research and completes standard reconciliation of accounts.


5. Learns to apply basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and related accounting operating procedures.

 

6. Develops and maintains cooperative work relationships with cross-functional team members.


SUPERVISION:
 

Manager of unit to which assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  1. Ability to prepare and enter journal vouchers and validate for accuracy.
  2. Ability to complete standard account reconciliation, and conduct basic accounting research.
  3. Ability to communicate orally and in writing at a level sufficient to exchange technical information with internal customers, including accounting service centers.
  4. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative work relationships with cross-functional team members.
  5. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Possession of a Bachelors or Graduate degree in accounting or a closely related field which included at least 24 semester hours of accounting, auditing, finance and business law coursework field from a college or university accredited by a national or regional accreditation organization recognized and sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Education.
