Project Assistant - Department of Pediatrics and child Health

Goal: Assist with ongoing projects and general office work for the Pediatric Hematology/HIV Research Unit and Howard University Stigma Project (located in Howard University Hospital)

Hours: 8-15 hours per week, hybrid (mostly in person at Howard University Hospital)

Reports to: Immediate supervisors: Grants Administrator, Project Director and Family Advocate; Overall Supervisor: Unit Director (Sohail Rana, MD)

 

I. Research Unit/ Stigma Project Operations

a. Assist with planning and implementation of conferences and special events, including outreach to sponsors

b. Assist with maintenance and expansion of social media efforts surrounding the International Conference on Stigma and other special events

c. Deliver documents to relevant hospital and university offices

d. Assist all staff with office work, data entry or special projects as needed

II. Assist Family Advocate with the Pediatric Sickle Cell Program

a. Assist with administrative tasks- this may include copying, organizing, returning calls, and basic design assistance

b. Assist with planning of conferences or special events relating to sickle cell disease

c. Assist with sickle cell disease social media

d. Perform data entry or other support for research and special projects

III. Assist Unit Director/Principal Investigator

a. Assist the Unit Director in the Pediatric clinic with administrative tasks if needed

b. Tidying and organization of the Unit Director’s office, and distribute incoming mail

c. Day to day monitoring of equipment (e.g. Fax, computers) and supplies, with call for service if needed

d. If needed, provide with front desk coverage for the administrative office, including screening of visitors if Grants Administrator is not present

Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or GED

· Relevant volunteer or work experience in the industry preferred

· Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

· Keen attention to detail and an aptitude for problem-solving

· Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and social media

· Collaborative working style and team-player attitude, but able to work independently
