Job Title: EURēCA! Student Assistant in Neuroscience
Job Location/Address: Anschutz Medical Campus / This position can be flexible with some remote and some on-campus components.
Purpose: The student assistant will conduct experiments collaboratively under the direction of a mentor in order to contribute to the lab’s greater body of knowledge. The student assistant will also work with and learn from other lab members, including research assistants, graduate students, postdocs, and the principal investigator to gain experience and training in neuroscience research.

Position Description: The student assistant will work with a team to understand the cellular mechanisms regulating oligodendroglia behaviors an aged mouse model. They will conduct lab work, perform data analysis, and work with their mentor to design experiments and troubleshoot issues. They will present their data within the Hughes laboratory.
Duties and Responsibilities: Lab work will include duties such as long-term in vivo two-photon imaging and animal handling. Data analysis will involve analyzing images using specialized software (ImageJ/FIJI) and statistical programs (Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism, JMP).
Skills and Knowledge Gained: The student assistant will hone their skills in critical thinking and problem solving, laboratory technical skills, experimental design, database management, statistical analyses, scientific communication, and scientific literacy.
Minimum Qualifications: Enthusiasm to learn, willingness to work with mice, and scientific integrity.

Position Commitment: Flexible, approximately 8 h/week.
Preferred Work Times: Preferred ~2.5 hours Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

Work-study is required for this position, all offers will be contingent on a current work-study award.
- First complete 2025-2026 FAFSA or CASFA and confirm work-study eligibility with the CU Denver Financial Aid office.
- Once confirmed, attach email from Financial Aid stating potential work-study eligibility.
- Following interview and position offers, the EURēCA! Office will provide Work-study Authorization forms to confirm final work-study award amounts.
