Intern - Power Marketing - Power Trading

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

 

JOB TITLE: Intern - Power Marketing - Power Trading

DEPARTMENT: Power Marketing – Topeka General Office

LOCATION: Topeka, KS

PAY RANGE: $19.00 - $23.00 / Hour

 

Internship Position for Summer 2026. 

 

Scheduled Work Hours: Summer: Monday – Friday, Full Time 7am – 4pm. The role is hybrid, and employees typically work three days in the office and two days from home. Additional in-office days (up to 5 per week) may be required to support business needs.

Intern Description:

Evergy Energy Partners (EEP) provides energy management, asset optimization, hedging, trading, and renewable energy development for Evergy as well as external customers. This position will have the opportunity to support the speculative power and natural gas trading desk through a variety of projects.

 

Job tasks include but not limited to:

  • Gain an understanding of the bulk electricity system and related markets
  • Conduct detailed analytical research into market phenomena
  • Develop models and tools to support speculative trading P&L

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university in one of the following or a related technical field: computer science, finance, engineering, or economics.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

  • Strong interest in trading and financial markets
  • Proficiency in a data visualization tool (PowerBI or Tableau) and Excel
  • Basic understanding of financial derivatives such as swaps and options
  • 1-2 years of programming experience (Python or VBA strongly preferred)
  • Ability to convert quantitative research into practical solutions
  • Comfort working independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
