The Milford Police Department is seeking exceptional individuals interested in a career as an officer in a community-oriented police agency. The Milford Police Department offers an excellent work environment in a rewarding career field. The selection process for OPOTA-certified, entry-level officers consists of a written examination, an oral panel examination, a physical fitness test, a background investigation, a CVSA examination, a drug screen, and a psychological assessment. Current full-time law enforcement officers are not required to take the written exam.

·        Starting hourly range $36.53 - $45.74 per hour

Job Requirements

Citizenship Required: Yes

High School Grad/GED: Yes

Valid OHIO Driver's License: Yes

Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes

College: Not required; however, 5% bonus is applied to the passing score for a four-year degree.

Academy Certification: Yes

Prior Experience: No

Necessary Certifications: Ohio Peace Officer Training Certificate

Additional Requirements: Must be able to pass the OPOTC Basic Training Physical Assessment standards for pushups and sit-ups, and a fitness testing/job-simulated obstacle course. The obstacle course is pass/fail and consists of a 130-yard run with specific obstacles, and must be completed in less than 58 seconds.

Hiring Process:

  • Entrance examination for certified officers without full-time experience. Officers currently employed full-time are eligible to proceed directly to the oral examination.
  • Notices to the top 25 applicants based upon the written examination scores. Candidates are also scheduled for the oral examination. Rejection letters sent by the Personnel Commission to those not passing the minimal grade set for the examination.
  • Oral examination is given to top candidates.
  • Candidates are then ranked in order based upon oral examination scores by the interview panel. Top 5 candidates per vacancy move to the background investigation step.
  • Top candidates are interviewed by the Chief of Police if a vacancy exists. If no vacancy exists, the candidates will remain on the eligibility list in their respective order until a vacancy occurs.

Character: Must be of good moral character with no felony convictions. Previous work history must indicate dependability, the ability to get along with people, and exercise good judgment.

Body Art: Sworn officers are permitted to expose non-offensive tattoos anywhere other than the hands, neck, or face. The Chief of Police has final authority to determine whether or not a tattoo is deemed offensive.
