Student Job Opening: Writing & Social Media Assistant

Are you the one always snapping pics, writing clever captions or catching typos in your group chat? Do you love to tell stories, share what’s happening on campus and scroll social media like it’s your job? (Because ... it could be!)
 

The University Communications and Marketing (UCM) team is looking for a creative, curious and quick-on-your-feet student assistant to help with writing and social media. You’ll be part of the crew behind UA’s main accounts and news stories, helping to shape how the world sees The University of Akron.

What You’ll Be Doing:
 

Writing & PR:
• Write stories, news releases and web articles about cool things happening around campus.
• Attend events, interview students/faculty/staff and help share their stories.
• Pitch fun or inspiring ideas for news coverage and help bring them to life.
• Update UA media experts list on the website and help build media contact lists for journalists around the world. 
 

Social Media:
• Write scripts and review content for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and more.
• Help brainstorm campaigns, trends and content ideas that resonate with students.
• Respond to messages and comments in a professional, friendly voice.
• Use tools like Canva, CapCut, and scheduling platforms to manage content.
• Assist with social media analytics.
• Participate as on-camera talent for campus videos.

What We’re Looking For:
• A strong writer with a knack for storytelling
• Someone who’s creative, organized and not afraid to speak up with ideas
• Comfortable reviewing drafts of videos/social posts and giving feedback
• Confident reaching out to people and asking great interview questions
• Good at juggling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
• Open to editing and feedback from others
• Someone not afraid to learn new technology/software
• A team player who can also work independently (we love both!)
