Program Overview:
The Sallie Mae Internship program seeks to attract and develop exceptional early talent while adding value to our organization. Our goal is to tie academic learning into a practical business setting while fostering professional and personal growth within a student’s area of focus.
Over the course of the semester, interns will gain exposure to senior leaders, attend meetings, work alongside mentors, and receive valuable performance feedback.
What You'll Contribute:
This position aims to provide a temporary role related to academic field of study or career interests in statistical modeling. This position requires knowledge of statistical and mathematical theories and techniques and coding languages such as SAS, SQL, R, and Python.
What You'll Do:
Develop statistical models for managing credit risk of student loan borrowers using techniques such as Time Series, OLS, Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, and Cluster Models. Facilitate modeling managers to work with internal and external parties to have model validated and approved by the Credit Committee. Document model specifications and forecast results in write-up format in accordance with Model Risk Management Policies and Procedures. Respond to requests for data and analytics needed by management and business partners. Prepare presentations for the support of risk management initiatives.

What You Have:
Minimum education, skills and experience required.
Education:
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
Open to Graduate students in Master’s or PhD programs
Maintains a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Experience:
Available to work up to 40 hours per week between 6/1/2026 and 8/28/2026 – Summer
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills with individuals at all levels.
Excellent administrative skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and web-based applications.
Strong follow through and multi-tasking skills, and attention to detail.
Local candidates required (hybrid) This role is hybrid requiring Tuesdays to Thursdays onsite
